Screlec was one of the two approved French eco-organisms for portable batteries. Its take-back scheme now operates under the Batribox brand (approved by the arrêté of 27 March 2025); new producer adhesions route to Batribox or Ecosystem.
Screlec historically ran a collection and recycling network for portable batteries and accumulators in France, with a fee structure that could favour certain chemistries. That activity now operates as Batribox, the approved eco-organism for portable batteries alongside Ecosystem (which absorbed Corepile in 2025).
Any producer placing portable batteries on the French market, embedded or standalone. New adhesions are handled by Batribox (Screlec's successor brand) or by Ecosystem.

Frequently asked questions
- Who has to join Screlec?
- Any producer placing products covered by Portable batteries and accumulators on the French market, whatever the country it is established in, with no minimum volume. The producer is the first company placing the goods on that market: for a distance sale to a French consumer, that is the seller, not the carrier and not the marketplace.
- Can I join Screlec without a French company?
- Not directly. A producer with no establishment in France goes through a France-established mandataire, compulsory since 10 July 2026 under Article L. 541-10-9-1 of the Code de l'environnement. The representative signs the membership in the producer's name, then ADEME publishes the IDU within 2 to 3 weeks.
- What does Screlec membership cost?
- Two separate amounts. The membership fee runs from EUR 0 to 450 a year depending on the stream. The eco-contribution depends on what you place on the market and follows Screlec's published schedule. We take no percentage and no margin on either of them.
- Is Screlec the only option?
- No. On Portable batteries and accumulators, Ecosystem, Corepile (merged into Ecosystem in 2025) and Batribox are also state-accredited. Joining any one of them satisfies the obligation, and the choice belongs to the producer. They differ on their published schedule, their declaration format and their eco-modulations, not on the legal cover they provide.
- What do I declare once I have joined?
- The volumes you placed on the market the previous year, in the unit that stream uses, on Screlec's own calendar. That declaration sets the eco-contribution you owe. A producer joining late regularises the earlier years in which it placed products on the market.
