Amazon France enforces EPR faster than the French State.
French law, through article L. 541-10-9 of the Environment Code, makes marketplaces co-responsible for EPR compliance of third-party sellers. Amazon France treats this as operational risk: their automated checks suspend ASINs without a valid IDU before any French agency notices.
In practice, what triggers delisting is not a fine from the ADEME but an internal compliance flag on Amazon Seller Central. The fastest way out is to provide a valid IDU per stream.

It depends on each stream's declaration regime (flat-fee, simplified or itemised) and on your number of product references, not on your sales volume. A one-time setup per stream and a refundable security deposit are stated in the quote. Eco-contributions are set by each eco-organism on its published barème and stay separate from our fee: we take no percentage and no margin on them, nor on eco-organism membership fees.

Why is Amazon asking for my EPR number in France?

How fast can you get me listed again on Amazon France?

Once we receive your signed mandate and company details, the dossier is filed with the eco-organism within 24 to 48 hours. From there, the eco-organism reviews the dossier (5 to 10 business days) and ADEME publishes the IDU on the SYDEREP teleservice (5 to 10 business days), for a standard total of 2 to 3 weeks from mandate signature to IDU live. Is appointing a representative actually compulsory, or just the easiest route?

Compulsory, since 10 July 2026. Law n° 2026-602 of 8 July 2026 created Article L. 541-10-9-1 of the French Environment Code: any person with no establishment in France who is subject to French EPR must appoint a France-established representative by written mandate, and that representative is subrogated into the EPR obligations it accepts. It covers all 19 French EPR streams, not packaging alone, and the test is establishment in France rather than nationality, so an EU seller with no French entity is covered exactly like a US or Chinese one. Amazon’s IDU check under Article L. 541-10-9 is the commercial enforcement layer sitting on top of that legal obligation.
Amazon collects eco-contributions for me. Does that make me compliant?

No, and the statute makes the gap sharper. Article L. 541-10-9-1 treats the appointment obligation as satisfied only for products in respect of which a France-established person covered by Article L. 541-10-9 actually ensures compliance with the EPR obligations, and that cover runs per product, per stream and per channel. Collection of eco-contributions on Amazon sales does not register you, does not produce an IDU in your name, and does nothing for your other channels. Confirm in writing what a platform genuinely takes on before relying on it.
Do I still need an EPR representative if I use Amazon FBA in another EU country?

Yes, if you ship products into France through FBA or otherwise. The French EPR obligation is triggered by the first placement on the French market, regardless of the country of warehousing. Pan-European FBA from a German or Polish warehouse to French consumers triggers the obligation.
