EPR registration in France,
step by step.
There is no single “EPR France” counter. Registration means joining the right eco-organism for each stream you sell in, then receiving your IDU from ADEME through the SYDEREP registry. If your company is not established in France, a France-established authorized representative does this in your name. Here is the exact path, the timeline and the costs.
- ✓ Membership proof in 48–72h
- ✓ IDU in 2 to 3 weeks
- ✓ Fixed written quote in one business day, from €190/year excl. VAT per stream
The five steps
France has 19 streams (packaging, WEEE, batteries, textile, furniture, toys, sports/DIY, paper, construction and more). Most sellers owe 2 to 4. Map your catalogue before anything else, registering for the wrong streams wastes fees, missing one leaves you exposed.
Details →Producers not established in France, EU or non-EU, cannot register alone: eco-organism adherence and the ADEME registry require a French counterpart. The mandate is written (Code civil, Art. 1984 et seq.), signed electronically, no notary, and since 10 July 2026 it carries the statutory subrogation of Article L. 541-10-9-1.
Details →Citeo, Léko or Adelphe for household packaging; Ecosystem or Ecologic for WEEE; Refashion for textile; Ecomaison for furniture, toys and sports; Valobat or Ecominéro for construction. Proof of membership is issued within 48 to 72 hours, this is the document marketplaces accept to lift suspensions.
Details →The eco-organism transmits your file to the national producer registry (SYDEREP). ADEME issues one Identifiant Unique (IDU) per stream, typically within 2 to 3 weeks. The IDU is public and queried by Amazon, Cdiscount, ManoMano and French B2B buyers.
Details →Add the IDU to your marketplace seller accounts, invoices and legal notices where required. Declare your volumes placed on the French market every year and pay the eco-contributions, this is what keeps the IDU valid.

Frequently asked questions
Is there one central EPR register in France?
One registry, several doors. ADEME runs the national producer registry (SYDEREP) that issues the IDU, but you cannot register there directly: registration flows through the eco-organism of each stream (Citeo for household packaging, Ecosystem or Ecologic for WEEE, Refashion for textile…). One IDU per stream, all published on the public SYDEREP teleservice.
How long does EPR registration take in France?
With a complete file: eco-organism membership proof within 48 to 72 hours of mandate signature, and the formal IDU from ADEME within 2 to 3 weeks. Suspended marketplace sellers get their listings back with the membership proof, before the IDU arrives.
Can I register without a French company or address?
Not alone. A producer not established in France must appoint a France-established authorized representative who signs the eco-organism adherence and obtains the IDU in the producer’s name. That is the service we provide. Appointing a representative does not create a French establishment or tax presence for you.
My eco-organism membership predates July 2026. Do I need to change anything?
If you have no establishment in France and no representative is recorded on the file, yes. Since 10 July 2026, Article L. 541-10-9-1 of the Code de l’environnement (law n° 2026-602 of 8 July 2026) makes appointing a France-established representative compulsory, so a membership with no representative on file no longer satisfies the statute. Regularisation is a file update, not a re-registration, and the IDU does not have to be lost: appoint a representative for the streams concerned, sign the written mandate, send it to each eco-organism so the membership is updated, have the representative sign or take over the membership contract, then the eco-organism updates the data in SYDEREP.
How does WEEE registration work in France specifically?
WEEE (electrical and electronic equipment) follows the same two layers: adherence to Ecosystem or Ecologic, then the IDU via SYDEREP. Specifics: fees are set per equipment category, embedded batteries need a separate battery-stream registration, and B2B invoices must display the visible eco-contribution. There is no separate "WEEE number" beyond the IDU.
Does Amazon’s Pay-on-Behalf count as EPR registration?
No. Pay-on-Behalf means Amazon collects and pays eco-contributions for sales on Amazon only. It does not register you, does not produce an IDU, and does not cover any other channel (your webshop, Cdiscount, B2B). ADEME still lists you as non-compliant. See our Pay-on-Behalf vs registration comparison.
What does EPR registration cost in France?
Three components: (1) our representative fee, a fixed annual amount per stream from €190/year excl. VAT, confirmed in a written quote within one business day together with the one-time setup per stream and the refundable deposit; (2) the eco-organism membership fee, roughly €0 to €450 per year per stream, set by the eco-organism; (3) the eco-contributions themselves, proportional to your volumes, set by each eco-organism on its published barème. Both sit outside our fee, and we take no percentage and no markup on either.
I registered for EPR in Germany (LUCID). Do I need to register in France separately?
Yes. EPR is national: LUCID, Ecoembes or CONAI registrations have no effect in France. Every country where you place products on the market requires its own registration and its own representative if you are not established there. France issues its own IDU through ADEME.
