Ecomaison is the eco-organism accredited for multiple French EPR streams: furniture (DEA), toys, and parts of the sports/DIY/garden stream. Non-EU exporters with home decor, furniture or related catalog routinely arrive at Ecomaison via a French marketplace flag.

What DEA covers#

DEA stands for Déchets d’Éléments d’Ameublement, furniture waste. The scope:

• Furniture: chairs, sofas, tables, beds, storage units, desks, bookcases.
• Mattresses, sommiers (bed bases), foam toppers.
• Structural home decor: large shelves, modular storage.
• Outdoor furniture: garden chairs, parasols, garden tables.
• Office furniture (for B2C sales; B2B office furniture has a separate sub-stream).
• Furniture-grade upholstered items.

What is out of scope: pure decorative items (vases, picture frames, candles), bedding accessories (pillows, comforters under Refashion), kitchen accessories (under packaging or other streams).

Multiple streams under one operator#

Ecomaison consolidates several historically separate eco-organisms under one operating umbrella. The relevant streams:

• DEA (furniture), the largest by tonnage for home brands.

3. Dossier filed with Ecomaison (5-10 business days review).
4. IDUs issued per stream, published to SYDEREP within 5-10 business days.
5. Annual declaration filed by 28 February for prior year tonnage.

Total time: 2-3 weeks from mandate to live IDUs.

DEA verification on French marketplaces:

• Amazon.fr: Furniture category SKUs trigger DEA check. Listings deactivate if missing.

• ManoMano: DIY/garden furniture verified. Strong enforcement.
• Fnac/Darty: Office furniture and home decor verified at audits.
• Shopify D2C: No marketplace check, but legal obligation under L. 541-10 remains.

Does Ecomaison cover both furniture and toys?#

Yes. Ecomaison is accredited for multiple streams including DEA (furniture), toys, and parts of the sports/DIY/garden stream. A producer with mixed furniture + toys catalog files one mandate with Ecomaison covering all relevant streams, though each stream gets its own IDU.

Is bedroom decor like pillows and mattresses furniture under DEA?#

Mattresses are definitively under DEA. Bedding accessories (pillows, comforters) are typically under household linen (Refashion TLC) rather than DEA. The decisive factor is structural function: items that support body weight or provide structural home furniture sit under DEA; soft textile items sit under TLC.

What about decorative wall art, ceramics, glass vases?#

Decorative home goods (vases, picture frames, candle holders) typically fall outside DEA, they are not "furniture" in the functional sense. They do, however, trigger packaging EPR if shipped to French consumers. Confirm with your representative for borderline decorative-but-structural categories.
